IECEx is the globally recognised certification system for equipment used in explosive atmospheres. AJV Tech supplies a comprehensive range of IECEx certified explosion proof lighting, portable lighting, and ventilation products from leading manufacturers including Raytec, Atexor, and Ramfan. Our IECEx certified products are deployed across oil and gas facilities, petrochemical plants, and offshore platforms throughout the Middle East and India.

IECEx (International Electrotechnical Commission System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres) is the world's only truly international certification system for explosion-protected equipment. Established by the IEC, the system provides a single global standard that ensures equipment has been tested and certified to meet rigorous safety requirements for use in environments where flammable gases, vapours, dusts, or fibres may be present. IECEx certification is recognised across more than 30 countries, making it the preferred standard for multinational operators and projects that span multiple jurisdictions.
While both IECEx and ATEX certify equipment for use in explosive atmospheres, they differ in scope and recognition. ATEX is a European Union directive mandatory for products sold within the EU/EEA, whereas IECEx is an international voluntary certification system accepted worldwide. IECEx follows the IEC 60079 series of standards, and ATEX references the same technical standards through harmonised European norms (EN 60079). In practice, many manufacturers hold both certifications. For projects in the Middle East, India, and Asia-Pacific, IECEx is typically the primary certification required, while ATEX may be additionally requested by European-based operators or EPC contractors.
IECEx uses the zone classification system to categorise hazardous areas based on the likelihood and duration of an explosive atmosphere. Zone 0 refers to areas where an explosive gas atmosphere is present continuously or for long periods. Zone 1 covers areas where an explosive gas atmosphere is likely to occur during normal operations. Zone 2 applies to areas where an explosive gas atmosphere is not likely during normal operations, but may occur for short periods. For combustible dust, Zone 20, Zone 21, and Zone 22 apply similarly. AJV Tech supplies IECEx certified lighting products rated for Zone 1 and Zone 2 gas environments as well as Zone 21 and Zone 22 dust environments, ensuring safe illumination across all classified hazardous areas.
AJV Tech offers an extensive portfolio of IECEx certified products from world-class manufacturers. Our range includes Raytec SPARTAN fixed explosion proof LED luminaires for permanent installation in Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas, Atexor StrongEx and JAMMEX portable and temporary lighting solutions designed for maintenance and turnaround operations, and Ramfan explosion proof ventilation fans for confined space and hazardous area applications. All products are stocked locally and supported by our technical team across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and India.
IECEx certification confirms that a product has been independently tested and verified to meet the IEC 60079 series of standards for equipment in explosive atmospheres. It means the product is safe for installation in hazardous areas — oil and gas facilities, refineries, and petrochemical plants — where flammable gases or dusts may be present.
Yes. IECEx is the primary hazardous area certification accepted across all GCC countries. Major operators including ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, QatarEnergy, PDO, and KOC all recognise and require IECEx certification for explosion proof electrical equipment. It is also the standard referenced in most GCC engineering specifications and EPC contractor procurement documents.
IECEx is an international voluntary certification system accepted in more than 30 countries. ATEX is a mandatory EU directive required for products sold within the EU and EEA. Both reference the same IEC 60079 technical standards. For GCC and India projects, IECEx is the primary certification required; ATEX may be additionally specified by European-based operators or EPC contractors.
IECEx covers all hazardous area zone classifications: Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 for gas and vapour environments, and Zone 20, Zone 21, and Zone 22 for combustible dust. AJV Tech supplies IECEx certified products rated for Zone 1 and Zone 2 gas environments, and Zone 21 and Zone 22 dust environments — the classifications most commonly found in GCC and Indian industrial facilities.
Yes. All IECEx certified products are supplied with a complete documentation package: IECEx certificates of conformity, declarations of conformity, technical datasheets, and installation and maintenance manuals. This is required for engineering submittals, vendor registration, and HSE approval processes across GCC and Indian projects.
