Confined Space Lighting

Confined space lighting used in Zone 1 or Zone 2 classified spaces in GCC oil and gas facilities must hold IECEx and/or ATEX certification under the IEC 60079 series. For projects under ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, QatarEnergy, or ONGC, full certification documentation must be submitted during material approval. AJV Tech supplies certified confined space lighting with all required documentation from UAE stock.

Both options are used depending on the application. Battery-powered portable lights offer maximum flexibility and eliminate cable tripping hazards inside confined spaces. Corded lighting connected through an ATEX or IECEx certified transformer and extension leads provides continuous illumination for longer operations. General maintenance and access work typically requires 200-300 lux minimum at the work surface, which for a mid-sized storage tank can be achieved with one or two high-output portable floodlights in the 5,000-10,000 lumen range. Detailed inspection tasks such as weld inspection require higher local illumination supplemented by inspection lamps. AJV Tech can assist with lighting selection for your vessel dimensions.

Power for confined space lighting is supplied through an ATEX or IECEx certified portable transformer positioned outside the classified area, connected to the internal lighting via certified extension leads and splitter boxes. The transformer steps voltage down and provides isolation. All components inside the confined space must be certified for the zone classification of that space.
